Throwback: When Ajay Devgn replaced Akshay Kumar in his debut film

Ajay Devgn made his debut in films with Phool Aur Kaante ( 1991), the film stormed the box office with its captivating storyline, melodious songs, and high-octane action. Ajay Devgn's iconic on-screen entry, standing atop two moving motorcycles, became a memorable moment. Interestingly, the movie was initially offered to Akshay Kumar, but destiny had other plans. Incidentally Ajay and Akshay both made their debut in movies in the same year.Akshay's debut film was Saugandh which was directed by Raj Sippy.


During his college days, Ajay Devgn used to assist his father, action director Veeru Devgan, on film sets after attending classes. One day, returning home, he found the director of "Phool Aur Kaante," Kuku Kohli, sitting with his father, who urged him to consider signing a film. Initially the superstar was hesitant as he was just 18, Ajay had impressed the director with dialogues from Amitabh Bachchan’s films and eventually agreed to do the film after learning Akshay Kumar was unavailable.


As it turns out, both are actors are very good friends of each other and have done multiple films together from Suhaag to Insaan to Khakhee and very recently Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi. In fact the two of them are once again going to come together for Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again which is slated to release on August 15th, 2024.
