When Bipasha Basu reacted to her viral kissing photo with Cristiano Ronaldo while she was in a serious relationship with John Abraham: 'Main Ronaldo ki badi fan thi'

Cristiano Ronaldo is in the news after he announced engagement to his long-time girlfriend, Georgina Rodriguez. He shared the news on social media with Georgina proudly showed off her massive oval-cut diamond ring.

With the engagement news making waves, netizens were quick to revisit Ronaldo’s infamous kiss controversy with Bipasha Basu — one of Bollywood’s most talked-about scandals, particularly because Bipasha was then in a serious relationship with John Abraham.


The incident dates back to 2007, when Ronaldo and Bipasha crossed paths at the New Seven Wonders of the World ceremony in Lisbon, Portugal. Bipasha was representing Bollywood, while Ronaldo was already an internationally celebrated footballer. Known for his charm, Ronaldo left quite an impression on Bipasha as well.

After the event, the duo headed to a party. Photos from the gathering showed them laughing and chatting comfortably, but one particular image of Ronaldo kissing Bipasha — went viral, sending shockwaves across social media. The actress faced heavy criticism for allegedly cheating on John Abraham. Addressing the controversy years later, Bipasha said in an interview with 'Aap Ki Adalat', “Woh baat maine kabhi media ko clarification dene ki koshish nahi ki par ab dungi. Main Ronaldo ki badi fan thi aur hu. Portugal mein seven wonders of the world host kar rahi thi thi. Post that, I met him at a party. He is very tall and there was too much noise and every time he had to talk, he had to bend down and talk to me.”

Recalling the moment, Bipasha had said in another interview, “Meeting him was a dream come true. After the event, we went out clubbing, and that was simply fantastic. He is so cute, and it was strange when he called me cute … He is a friend now, and he has promised me that I will be invited for all his matches.”

Rumour mills suggested that John who was in a serious relationship with Bipasha was upset with rumours of them dating and was even considering breaking-up but later the couple patched up. Eventually, many years later, the duo did part ways. Bipasha married Karan Singh Grover.

While Ronaldo never married, he and Georgina have been together for eight years. The footballer became a father for the first time in 2010 with the birth of Cristiano Jr, whose mother’s identity remains undisclosed. In 2017, he welcomed twins Eva Maria and Mateo via surrogacy, followed later that year by a daughter, Alana Martina, with Georgina. In 2022, the couple welcomed Bella Esmeralda but tragically lost their newborn son during childbirth.
