On the death anniversary of the legendary
Sridevi, memories of the iconic star continue to surface through the heartfelt anecdotes shared by her daughter
Janhvi Kapoor. In a throwback conversation during promotions for her film ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari,' Janhvi revealed a lesser-known side of the superstar, her deep admiration for comedy and, in particular, her fondness for
Govinda’s effortless humor.
Sridevi’s admiration for Govinda’s comic brilliance
Speaking about favorite comedy performers in an interview with Pinkvilla, Janhvi in an old interview shared that both she and co-star Varun Dhawan instantly thought of the same names. “I think we both have the same answer, Govinda and Mom (Sridevi),” she said warmly. Janhvi further revealed that Sridevi adored Govinda’s unique style of physical comedy and razor-sharp timing. “Mom was actually a huge Govinda fan. She used to love watching his comedy and how physical he was with it and timing,” she recalled. According to Janhvi, whenever one of his films aired on television, Sridevi would sit down to watch and laugh wholeheartedly, proving that even a legend enjoyed being an audience member.

How Sridevi Reacted to ‘Judwaa 2’
Janhvi also shared a cherished memory of watching ‘Judwaa’ in theaters with her parents; recalling the experience, she said, “I have memories of watching ‘Judwaa’ in the theater… I remember watching that film with Mom and Dad." What stood out most was Sridevi’s reaction to Varun Dhawan, who starred in the sequel ‘Judwaa 2.'
“Mom was actually awestruck by him… She was like, "He's got so much energy." He is so fresh. Oh my god! She was thrilled,” Janhvi remembered fondly, highlighting how deeply Sridevi appreciated youthful exuberance on screen.
A lesson in dual roles
Varun Dhawan, in the same interaction, revealed that he later met Sridevi, who offered him valuable advice. She suggested he watch her cult classic ‘ChaalBaaz’ to better understand the nuances of playing double roles, a genre she had mastered with unmatched flair.
Varun Dhawan was last seen in the war film 'Border 2,' which is noted as one of his highest-grossing releases.
