When Sushmita Sen was upset about rumours of wedding with Wasim Akram, called it 'disrespectful' and 'irresponsible'

Sushmita Sen is one of the most graceful women we have. While she's beautiful and gracious in the way she speaks, she never fails to be honest and put across her opinions strongly. Sushmita has always addressed rumours and tags that she's got. She has also always chosen to clarify rumours and reports about her. One such time, she had expressed her disappointment when there were rumours of her wedding with Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram. She dismissed this rumour, calling it 'rubbish'.

The speculation stemmed from their stint as co-judges on the dance reality show 'Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena', where male cricketers were paired with female actors. At the time, whispers of a romance surfaced but died down quickly—until 2013, when reports once again claimed that Wasim and Sushmita were planning to tie the knot.


Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Sushmita strongly denied the news that time, writing, “Been reading about my upcoming wedding with Wasim. Absolute rubbish! Goes to show just how irresponsible media can be sometimes. Wasim Akram is a friend and will always be one! He has a wonderful lady in his life. Rumours like these are uncalled for and disrespectful! (sic)” She also reassured her fans, adding, “My beautiful people, when I find ‘the one’, you will be the first to know. (sic)”

Wasim, too, voiced his frustration. He told AFP, “I am tired of denying such rumours and now I want this to end once and for all.” Speaking warmly of Sushmita, he added, “She is one of the most graceful and decent ladies I have come across. It was huge fun working as a judge with Sushmita as she is a thorough professional and presents herself gracefully.”

Years later, in his 2022 memoir 'Sultan: A Memoir', Wasim reflected on that period of his life. He revealed that after the death of his wife Huma in 2009, he was constantly linked with various women, including Sushmita. “The media had a field day linking me up with a procession of beautiful women, including, for a time, my fellow judge on 'Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena', Sushmita Sen. The truth is I was far from ready for anything serious,” he wrote.

Eventually, Wasim moved on and married Shaniera Akram in 2013, putting an end to all the speculation once and for all.
