When Zubeen Garg reflected on missed opportunities by choosing to stay in Assam: ‘They looked for me but…’

Late singer Zubeen Garg's career spanning over 30 years, during which he recorded more than 38,000 songs in 40 different languages. His notable Hindi tracks include ‘Ya Ali’, ‘Dil Tu Hi Bataa’ and ‘Piya Re Piya Re’. A throwback moment had him appearing on a show called Mirakkel Awesome Saala and reflecting on the missed opportunities by not staying longer in Mumbai.

Success of ‘Ya Ali’ and career reflections

The singer spoke about his hit song ‘Ya Ali’, saying, "When I sang the song, I didn't know it would become such a rage. It was good for me, too. Mumbai industry gave a big break with the song." He also shared, "I stay most of the time in Assam. I don't stay much in Mumbai. For that, I missed out on a lot of work. When people look for me, they are told, 'He doesn't stay here.' Then they make someone else sing the song. I lost many opportunities."


Collaboration with Pritam and film details

Garg shared that Pritam, being a close friend, was invited to Mumbai to sing ‘Ya Ali’. He expressed great joy about the song, which featured in the 2006 film ‘Gangster: A Love Story’, directed by Anurag Basu and starring Kangana Ranaut, Emraan Hashmi, and Shiney Ahuja, with music composed by Pritam.

Zubeen Garg’s untimely death and tributes to a cultural icon

Zubeen Garg tragically passed away at 52 during a scuba diving session in Singapore. After his post-mortem, his body was flown from Delhi to Guwahati. Thousands of fans gathered at the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex to pay their respects. The cremation site is pending decision, with plans for a memorial in his honor.
