5 reasons why we can't get over Hum Aapke Hain Koun

Salman Khan as Prem: Sooraj Barjatya, who has always endorsed love in his films, named his first hero, Salman Khan, as Prem. Once Maine Pyaar Kiya was a hit, Salman wanted to retain the name for all his films. Accordingly, Salman Khan has been named Prem in 13 films. He was called Prem in Partner, Marigold, No Entry, Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaaye, Chal Mere Bhai, Biwi No 1, Hum Saath Saath Hai, Sirf Tum, Deewana Mastana, Judwaa, Hum Aapke Hai Kaun, Andaz Apna Apna and Maine Pyaar Kiya. But just like the innocent Prem in Maine Pyar Kiya, the Prem of Hum Aapke Hain Koun, too, won the hearts of millions. His playful attitude coupled with innocent looks impressed everyone. However, not many know that Maine Pyar Kiya was first offered to Aamir Khan. According to IMDB.com, Aamir had refused the role as he didn't find it to be appealing. After this, Salman, who was going through a bad career phase was signed on.

Salman Khan-Madhuri Dixit's chemistry: Before Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Salman Khan and Madhuri were seen together in Dil Tera Aashiq. However, the film had failed to create any magic at the box-office. However, Hum Aapke Hain Koun managed to cement the two as one of the most sought-after on-screen couples of the industry. Their innocent flirting, each time they meet during the wedding ceremonies, makes your heart melt. The ‘Ohoo ohoo’ chemistry between Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit is irresistible! In fact, many found the guileless flirting to be rather cute. Even today, after so many years, the masses identify with the movie’s lead characters. The characters became very popular with the audience and the film managed to catapult the careers of both Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit.

Feel good factor: Hum Aapke Hain Koun in itself was a trend-setter in Bollywood. At a time when the box-office favoured multi-starrers and action films, Hum Aapke Hain Koun came as a relief to the family audience. HAHK started the trend of non-violent and NRI-based, feel-good films. The film managed to create box-office history without having boasted of any villains as a part of their star cast. Many successful filmmakers followed the trend of family-oriented films after Hum Aapke Hain Koun's success. After all, it’s all about loving your family.

Songs: The beauty of all the melodious compositions is the fact that they are timeless. Songs like ‘Didi tera devar...,’ ‘Pehla pehla pyaar...’ and 'Joote do paise...' are still played at Indian weddings. The film's music continues to cast a spell, even after almost 21 years of its release. The 14-song soundtrack is one of the most popular ones in Bollywood history. According to IMDB, legendary singer, Lata Mangeshkar, who sang more than 10 songs for the film, had stopped accepting awards. However, her song ‘Didi tera devar...’ was such a big hit with the masses, that she was received the Filmfare Special Award that year.

Ensemble cast: One of the major reasons for the success of the film was the ensemble cast. Each actor had a defined role to play in the film. Whether it was the house help played by Lakshmikant Berde or Nisha's cousin, Bhola, played by Dilip Joshi, each one contributed to the film's success. Well-known celebs like Karan Johar and MF Hussain have confessed to having watched Hum Aapke Hain Koun over and over again, as they were in love the film. In fact, the dog, Tuffy, is also a very famous character from the film.
