Alone: 5 reasons why the film redefines eroticism

VFX creator Soumen Das's brief for Bhushan Patel's horror film Alone, was to create a prosthetic layer that would transform Bipasha Basu from glamorous leading lady to the revolting ghost who terrorises her. The spectre is Bipasha's dead twin and each blood curdling shot was first filmed with Bipasha and a body double and then re-shot with Bipasha wearing the prosthetics, reports Mumbai Mirror. “We used a composite merging process that combined live footage from the sets and computer generated images," said Soumen to the tabloid. “The pre-production stage took 7 months and matte paintings were created for 30 per cent of the film," he added. The set too saw several impromptu changes to accommodate a chroma screen for the double acts. “We were filming ghost sequences that appeared to be funny rather than scary. Since, we were working on conjoined twins, every sequence had to be filmed twice. We had to adjust the lighting so that the actors did not have shadows falling on them," Soumen further said. Based on the 2007 Thai horror flick of the same name, Alone has plenty of such double acts. He has worked as a shoot supervisor on Kill Dill and has been an assistant on the sets of horror films like Shapith and Aatma, but this is Soumen's first full-fledged project. When asked if he is satisfied with the results after 4 months of post-production, he said to Mirror, “In Bollywood, we don't have the luxury of working for 2 years on the animation of a film. My team and I are working tirelessly and should be done by January 3." Working on a tight deadline for a January 16 release, he added, “I'm working on stitching facial expressions on the ghost as fast as I can. The film's sound effects and rendering can only be done once my job is done."

Bhushan Patel's direction: Bhushan Patel, who promised full dose of entertainment in Ragini MMS 2, was successful in making Sunny Leone sizzle on-screen. Now, it seems that Bipasha too gets a chance to revive her career in Bollywood. "For Alone, we have adapted the screenplay of a Thai film of the same name, but keeping Indian audiences in mind. The story, interpersonal equations and the horror in Thai film Alone caters to Thai audiences and that is very different from our audience's taste," said the Ragini MMS 2 director. "The basic premise of this film and the Thai film is same, but I have changed a lot in the film. When you'll see the films and compare them, you will know it," he said in an interview to IANS.
