'Thakkar sexually assaulted me several times'

On Monday, October 18, 201, the police arrested Bollywood actor, Vishal Thakkar, for allegedly sexually assaulting television actress over a period of time on the pretext of marrying her. The matter took an ugly turn when the actress, could not bear the ordeal and approached the Charkop police on Saturday and lodged the case. After carrying the probe, police arrested Thakkar. The actor has been booked under the Indian Penal Code sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 376 (rape), 420 (cheating dishonestly), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman). The 26 year-old television actress lodged an FIR against Thakkar for raping her in his house and then beating her badly over a petty issue. In her complaint, the actress said, “We both are close friends and were also in a live in relationship from last few months. Thakkar sexually assaulted me several times making false promises to marry me. However, I left his house after unable to take the ordeal and insult he did on me increased.” A police official has been quoted as saying that, “She complained that she was fed up with Thakkar’s behaviour and left the house where they both were residing. She then stayed at her college residence where Vishal kept visiting and threatening her."

According to the report of AFP a well-known Australian actress, who starred in the hit television show Prisoner, was Thursday found guilty of child sex offences committed against a teenage girl more than 30 years ago.

Maggie Kirkpatrick, 74, had denied two charges of indecent assault and one count of gross indecency with a person under 16, but magistrate Peter Mealy said her accuser was credible.

"I am satisfied that she is a witness of truth," he said. Sentencing will be at a later date.

Kirkpatrick's conviction on all three counts just months after another popular 1980s Australian actor, Robert Hughes, was jailed for at least six years for sexually and indecently assaulting young girls between 1985 and 1990.

The court heard that Kirkpatrick, who has appeared in numerous other Australian television shows, assaulted the 14-year-old girl at her home in 1984 after a woman who worked with the actress arranged a meeting with the young fan.

The teenager was a patient at a psychiatric hospital at the time.The victim, who cannot be named, only reported the offence to police in 2013, previously thinking that no one would believe her, the Melbourne Age said.
Kirkpatrick played a formidable prison warder known as The Freak in the 1980s soap opera, which was also popular in Britain and the United States where it was known as Prisoner: Cell Block H.

Australia is currently holding a wide-ranging government-backed inquiry into child sex abuse and has so far heard harrowing evidence of assaults involving places of worship, orphanages, community groups and schools.

In June, the inquiry announced plans to put the spotlight on the entertainment industry, urging anyone who has suffered abuse to come forward. However, Kirkpatrick's case was not linked to this inquiry.

It follows revelations of abuse by a number of high-profile entertainers across the world, including Australian Rolf Harris who is in jail in Britain for a string of sex assaults against girls.

ABCD 2 actor, Nilesh Nirbhavane, has been arrested for raping a 14-year old mentally challenged girl. According to a report on Bollywoodlife.com, Nilesh, a dancer by profession, was arrested by the Pant Nagar Police on June 26, when he confessed to his crime. Reportedly, Nilesh had been raping the girl repeatedly for a month along with a friend. They would take the girl to public toilets or other isolated places and then rape her. Apparently, it was the girl’s teacher who noticed that she had been behaving abnormally for some time. Upon questioning, the teacher found out that the teenager was being abused sexually by three boys. She informed about the same to the girl’s parents who then filed a complaint at the Pant Nagar Police station on June 25. The officer also informed that Nilesh’s two broken front teeth served as a major clue on the basis of which they had called him in for questioning. After a little probe, Nilesh confessed to the crime and was booked under IPC sections 376D (gang rape), 377 (unnatural offences) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).

Rakhi Sawant is known to be embroiled in controversies. So when her friend Manisha Kumari slapped director Sachindra Sharma on stage, Rakhi Sawant was by her side to extend her support to her friend. According to a report in Amar Ujala, the incident took place at the music launch of the film, Mumbai Can Dance Saalaa. Rakhi and Sachindra were on stage when Manisha slapped the director. In response, Sharma beat up Manisha on stage.Manisha later lodged a complaint against the director accusing casting couch. Her grouse was that Sachindra had asked her to compromise in order to get a role in his movie. The police are investigating the matter. However, Sharma’s wife Madhu has also reportedly filed a cross-complaint against Manisha Kumari. The director too accused Rakhi and Manisha of staging the controversy for cheap publicity.

Following a rape complaint filed by his alleged girlfriend, TV actor Ahwaan Kumar was arrested by the Oshiwara police. A report in Mid-day quotes a source as saying that Ahwaan lured the actress into a relationship under the pretext of marrying her but asked her to abort the foetus when she told him about her pregnancy and also ended the relationship soon after. The report further states that the actress had tried to register a complaint on two earlier occasions but the actor's industry friends threatened her with dire consequences. The report also states that the FIR report states that the actress and Ahwaan had met on the sets of a television serial in 2011. Ahwaan proposed to her and gradually, they entered into a relationship. On February 12, 2012, Ahwaan got her admitted to a nursing home in Andheri, where she underwent the abortion. Hospital records have Ahwaan's name listed as her 'husband'. The complainant alleges in her statement that Ahwaan had promised to marry her and also met her parents. When she got pregnant and asked him to go for a court marriage, he started threatening and torturing the actress. The actor also forced her to abort the child and asked her to concentrate on her career instead. Later, he informed her that since their kundalis (birth charts) did not match, a marriage wasn't possible. When the actress started pressurising him to marry her, he started abusing her as well as her family. On November 22, 2014, the Oshiwara police registered an FIR under sections 376 (rape) and 507 (criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). In the report, Subhash Bele, senior police inspector of Oshiwara police station, was quoted as saying that the accused was in their custody and they were conducting a background check on the facts and records, and a proper investigation would follow.

The filmmaker, accused of molestation by Geetika Tyagi, was later released on bail. The Versova Police on Monday arrested National Award winning filmmaker Subhash Kapoor who is accused of molestation by actress Geetika Tyagi. According to the police, a constable was posted outside the residence of the filmmaker, who was supposedly out of town, and Kapoor was to be arrested upon return.
But Kapoor got wind of this and directly came to the police station on Monday morning accompanied by his lawyer. He was immediately arrested and produced in the Andheri court.
"We asked for police custody, but the court sent him to a 14-day judicial custody," an officer from Versova police station told Mirror on the condition of anonymity.
The director's lawyer then applied for bail which the court granted him, for a surety of Rs.10, 000.Confirming the same, ACP Milind Bharambe told Mirror, "Subhash Kapoor was arrested yesterday and the court has granted him bail." When asked why the cops didn't push for his custody, Bharambe said, "It was the court's decision."

Ankit Tiwari: Aashiqui 2 fame singer Ankit Tiwari, who won accolades for his song 'Sun raha hai,' has been accused of raping his girlfriend. The singer and his brother Ankur Tiwari have reportedly been arrested by the Versova police on rape charges. According to certain sections of the media, the victim is Ankit's girlfriend, an event management professional, who the singer has decided not to marry despite promising to marry her. The police have said that the incident happened late last night. The singer had come to meet the girl at her sister's home when she was alone and allegedly raped her.

Inder Kumar: Few days ago Bollywood actor Inder Kumar was also detained from his home after a 23-year-old model accused the actor of allegedly raping her. The actor was accused of raping the model at his house twice and also physically assaulting her. The victim also claimed that she was assaulted and hit with a beer bottle by Inder and confined at his house in suburban Andheri for a couple of days. It was also reported that the victim had burn wounds on her body indicating that the actor burnt her with his cigarettes. The incident took place on the day of the Mumbai elections. However, Inder's wife Pallavi Kumar Saraf defended her husband and said that her husband was innocent and was falsely framed.

Shiney Ahuja: This news shocked the entire industry as no one had ever thought that the Gangster actor could do such a thing. Shiney Ahuja was arrested on 14 June 2009 after his 20-year-old maid, working at his Oshiwara Mumbai residence, accused him of rape. The maid lodged an FIR against the actor alleging that he had raped her while they were alone at the actor's flat. She also mentioned in her complaint that the actor had confined her in a room for nearly two hours and threatened to harm her if she told anyone about the rape. In March 2011, the actor was convicted and sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment. However, after spending 27 days in jail, Ahuja was released on bail and the actor was directed not to leave India without permission.

Aditya Panscholi: Bollywood actor Aditya Panscholi has been embroiled in a series of controversies. The actor, who is famous for his alleged relationship with Kangana Ranaut and short temper, was also accused of raping his maid. The actor allegedly raped his ex-girlfriend Pooja Bedi's maid and this allegation resulted in their break-up. According to reports in the media, the actor had consensual sex with his 15-year old maid after convincing her that he would help her become an actress. However, the actor was alleged of raping the maid as she was a minor.

Madhur Bhandarkar: Well, Subhash is not the first director who has been accused of allegedly sexually molesting someone. There are other examples as well. Madhur Bhandarkar, who is known for making realistic films like Chandni Bar, Page 3 and Fashion was also the target of casting couch accusations. In 2004, Madhur was accused of rape by an aspiring actress Preeti Jain. The aspiring actress had alleged Madhur Bhandarkar of repeatedly having physical relationships with her from 1999 to 2004 under the pretext of launching her in one of his films. Madhur heaved a sigh a relief when in 2006 the rape case was dismissed but it soon reopened in 2009. Madhur has always strongly denied Preeti’s allegations. However, in 2012 the national award winning filmmaker received respite in the Preeti Jain rape case when the Supreme Court of India dismissed charges of rape against director Madhur Bhandarkar.

Dibakar Banerjee: Actress Payal Rohatgi shocked everyone when she accused the director of hit films like Khosla Ka Ghosla, Love Sex aur Dhoka and Shanghai, Dibakar Banerjee, of asking for sexual favours in exchange for a role. Payal claimed that she shared a good camaraderie with Dibakar but when she refused to comply to his unpleasant demand, Dibakar removed her from his film Shanghai. Payal also claimed that Dibakar asked her to lift her blouse and show him her stomach but she did not give in to his demands and asked him to leave. Dibakar, however, denied all the allegations against him saying that he doesn't need to have a physical relationship with someone to cast them in his films. And when the accusation became too much to handle, Dibakar's good friends and directors like Anurag Kashyap and Sudhir Mishra came ahead to support him.

Onir Dhar: Director of sensitive films like My Brother Nikhil and Bus Ek Pal who has always been open about his sexual preference was accused by struggling actor Yuvraaj Parashaar of Dunno Y…Naa Jaane Kyun of sexually assaulting him. Apparently, Parashar claimed that Onir invited him to his apartment in Mumbai to see his work and while watching his film, Onir got him drunk and forced him to move to the bedroom. Yuvraaj also claimed that the director forcibly abused him and showed a bite mark on his chest as evidence. However, Onir refuted all the charges and had planned to file a defamation case against Yuvraaj. Onir's close friends like Purab Kohli and Sanjay Suri came all out in support of Onir. While, casting couch rumors have always haunted the Indian film industry, Parashar's case was one its kind where a male actor had accused a film director of sexual molestation.

Rajkumar Santoshi: Sexual harassment and the casting couch are not new to the Indian film industry. It is a known fact while some openly speak about it, others like to be tight-lipped about the same. Bollywood actress Mamta Kulkarni, who was one of the young sensations in the '90s had also allegedly accused Rajkumar Santoshi of asking for sexual favours from her during the shooting of the film. The actress had worked with all the top actors of her time like Salman, Aamir and Akshay. But her accusation against Raj Kumar Santoshi took everyone by surprise. She accused Rajkumar Santoshi of trying to get fresh with her during the making of China Gate in 1998. Though Santoshi denied all the allegations but after the release of China Gate several tongues went wagging about her chopped role in the film. Mamta was drop dead gorgeous and was seen in super-hit films like Karan Arjun, Sabse Bada Khiladi and Ghatak but after this infamous incident she suddenly vanished from the industry.
