Indians at Cannes 2015: What to expect and what not to!

India's made its presence felt at the annual Cannes Film Festival held in the month of May. From screening of Indian films, to Bollywood celebs walking the red carpet for a cause or endorsing their brand, India has become hugely popular at the prestigious film festival. Like every year, there will be some celebs who wish sashay down the red carpet while a few regulars will give the event a miss. Read on to known which Indian celebrity is going to be there this year and who is not going to attend the do!

Irrfan - An actor of international repute, Irrfan has been a regular at the festival. However, this year, he will be giving the event a miss. At the 66th Cannes Film Festival, the actor along with The Lunchbox team had walked the red carpet and received accolades for their performance in this critically acclaimed film. Not only that, the movie also won the Critics' Week Viewers Choice Award that year. But this time around, the actor's work commitments will keep him away. According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Irrfan will be in Europe shooting with Tom Hanks and Felicity Jones.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui - After sharing screen space with Salman Khan in Kick, Nawaz will once again work with the actor in Kabir Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijaan. And that's the reason why he won't be able to attend the 68th Cannes Film Festival. Siddiqui along with Salman and the others is shooting in the Valley. Incidentally, Nawaz, who made his debut as a producer with his brother's film Miyan Kal Aana, will not walk the red carpet this time. However, the film will travel to Cannes and will be shown as part of the Short Film Catalog. Nawaz will surely be missed as he's become the Indian face of global cinema.

Freida Pinto - Freida struck gold with Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire and ever since, the actress seems to have bee absorbed by Hollywood! Freida first made her debut at the Cannes International Film Festival in 2012 as a brand ambassador for L’Oréal Paris along with some big names from Hollywood. But this year, she will be tied with another significant Hollywood project: Andy Serkis' The Jungle Book. Freida will be joined by Benedict Cumberbatch, Christian Bale and Cate Blanchett in the film. Jungle Book will be filmed in South Africa. Freida will be conspicuous by her absence this year.

Mallika Sherawat - She's made heads turn and quite literally at the Cannes Film Festival. From semi-nude outfits to making provocative statements about India, this girl from Haryana sure knows how to stay in the limelight. This year too, Mallika will be present at the Cannes Film Festival. She will be there as she has been invited to be on the discussion panel of "Co-Produce in India" by FICCI on behalf of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, on May 14.

Katrina, Sonam and Aishwarya - While Sonam and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan have been regulars at Cannes, Bollywood's Barbie Doll Katrina Kaif will make her debut this year. Katrina has been signed on by L'Oreal Paris as one of their brand ambassadors. She will make her red carpet appearance on May 13 and 14. Sonam Kapoor will complete her fifth year at Cannes where she will walk the red carpet on May 16 and 18. Aishwarya is a veteran, having graced the occasion for more than 10 years now. She will walk the red carpet on May 17 and 20. She will also chair the amfAR gala with Abhishek on May 21.
