Varun Dhawan denies hiking his fee

Actor Varun Dhawan, who has delivered hit films like Badlapur and ABCD 2 this year, has refuted rumours that he has hiked his fees for his forthcoming projects. "I have not really hiked my fee. If there is a film I truly believe in, then money is not a criteria for me. I'll go out of my way to do that film. I don't do films for money," Varun said at the special screening of Manjhi - The Mountain Man. Talking about the Nawazuddin Siddiqui-starrer film, Varun said, "It's wonderful. It's based on a real-life story and such films have to be encouraged and I think it could be one of Nawazuddin's best performance."

Varun Dhawan, who is busy promoting his upcoming film ABCD 2, recently came across an awful circumstance wherein he had to literally run on the streets of Mumbai. According to a report, Varun had to run to the domestic airport to catch a flight to Jaipur, Rajasthan, where he was going for the promotions of the film. Apparently, the actor, who had to board a morning flight, got stuck in traffic on the Western Express Highway. Thus, he decided to get off the car and run to the airport, which was not very far, the report stated. Interestingly, some onlookers also offered their umbrellas to the actor as it was raining. Finally, a quick run helped Varun to board the flight on time.

David was quoted in the report as saying, "He can never replace Salman. He is a great actor and a very big star. Varun is like his younger brother and that's why he tweeted also. Salman loves him."

Filmmaker Karan Johar has roped in Student of the Year stars Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt for his ambitious project Shhuddhi. Salman Khan, who was initially finalised for a role in the film, tweeted to congratulate Varun for the film. "Kamaal karte ho Varun Dhawan...made ur dad n me so proud of u... happy Shhuddhi," [sic] read his tweet.

According to a report on Pinkvilla.com, a source was quoted saying that Varun Dhawan is set to act in his dad David Dhawan's romantic comedy film where he will play a double role. According to a Mumbai Mirror report, in a fight sequence in Badlapur, Varun Dhawan had to confront a moving truck on the Mumbai-Pune expressway while Nawazuddin Siddiqui chased down a train in a car and Vinay Pathak jumped tracks at Khadki railway station. Action director Parvez Khan was surprised when Nawaz refused a double for an important flashback sequence, the report stated. Varun, who plays Raghu, sets off on the path of vengeance after his wife and son are killed. He has a confrontation scene with Nawaz in which he thrashes him ruthlessly. At the end of it, Nawaz, covered in blood, has a broken jaw but still keeps laughing, impervious to the punches, the report further stated. "The actors spent hours studying the action choreography and Varun actually knocked Nawaz out," Parvez revealed to Mirror. Recalling how Varun barged into a bathroom with fire in his eyes, Parvez said, "He picked up a hammer and thrashed the entire set in a single shot. For me that scene is unforgettable! All the shooting was done outdoors and stunts were real. And after pack-up, everyone was bruised but creatively satiated."

Main Tera Hero trailer hit a mark of 2 million views in just 1 week and that has surpassed the record of many blockbusters! This goes on to prove Varun's appeal. He has all it takes to be a superstar just like Salman Khan.

Varun, who started his career as an assistant director, perhaps took inspiration from Salman Khan looking at the way he projects himself in the film. Main Tera Hero is reminiscent of Salman and his antics from earlier films like Judwaa and Biwi No.1 and it seems the young gun is paying a tribute to Salman through his acting, his mannerism and bratty behaviour in the film. Post the film's release, while everyone was all praise for Varun, the comparisons between him and Salman Khan still haven't stopped. And may be this was intentional on the part of director David Dhawan, who is perhaps trying to create a modern day Salman Khan.

On his impression about Salman Khan, director David Dhawan had earlier said in an interview with The Times of India, "There can’t be another Salman. If Varun wants to be the next Salman Khan, he'll have to prove himself." But recently, the ace director said in an interview to businessofcinema.com David Dhawan had said, "I'm giving Varun a free hand to interpret his role how he wants. If you see Salman in my films, you'll find a lot of 'Salmanisms' in the characters. I want Varun to strive for the same kind of unrehearsed performance."
