Maharashtra Assembly Elections: Bollywood celebrities who could not cast their vote

The Assembly elections in Maharashtra saw a lot of support of B-town. Several Bollywood celebrities stepped out to vote at their respective booths. While some were early birds like Jaya Bachchan, a few decided to vote late in the evening like Priyanka Chopra who reportedly cast her vote at 5 pm. Not only did they vote with enthusiasm, but also encouraged others to vote and tweet about it. However, there were a few celebrities who could not cast their vote due to prior commitments, despite their self-confessed wish to do so.

Amitabh Bachchan is a very conscientious citizen and has always been at the forefront of social causes and events. However this time around, the actor was in Delhi and missed out on his chance to cast vote at the Assembly Elections in Maharashtra. Amitabh Bachchan has been shooting with Farhan Akhtar for the film titled, Do. It is directed by Bejoy Nambiar and Big B plays the character of a wheelchair-ridden chess master and Farhan plays an ATS officer. Do is produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

Aamir Khan has been an exemplary responsible citizen and keeps spreading the message to be one through his socially-driven television show, Satyamev Jayate. The actor however, was not in Mumbai to cast his vote. Reportedly, Aamir Khan was in Cannes due to a prior commitment and despite his efforts to make arrangements to travel to the city and vote, unfortunately the actor couldn't make it in time. However, his wife, Kiran Rao Khan exercised her right to vote and expressed that Aamir was very disappointed that he could not vote at the Assembly Elections this year.

Today is Saif Ali Khan and his Begum Kareena Kapoor Khan's second wedding anniversary. This cute couple of Bollywood too could not vote at the Maharashtra Assembly Elections held this year. According to a Times of India report, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan took off to their ancestral palace in Pataudi to prepare for their big day and hence couldn't vote. The duo will be celebrating their second wedding anniversary there, and flew out earlier this week.

Filmy commitments can surely keep you away from home for long. Something similar happened with Shahid Kapoor. After basking in the glory of his last release Haider, the actor took off to London to shoot for his next film. And hence the actor was not in action on the day of Assembly Elections in Maharashtra. Shahid Kapoor has been shooting for his next film - Shaandaar opposite Alia Bhatt. The duo recently left for the film's shoot. Alia Bhatt is not eligible to vote because she holds a British passport. Alia's mother, Soni Razdan is of British origin and hence the actress is not eligible to vote in India.

Sonakshi Sinha has been flying high with a bevy of films in her kitty and because of her professional commitments the actress could not exercise her right to vote on Wednesday. According to a Bombay Times report, the actress was shooting in Hyderabad with Rajinikanth for their upcoming film Lingaa. The report further stated that Sonakshi's mother, Poonam Sinha had said that the makers of Lingaa are planning to release the movie on Rajinikanth's birthday on December 12 and hence the actress has to complete the schedule on time and not come to Mumbai to vote.

There were several other stars who came to vote at the Assembly Elections, while there were some who could not because they were out of the country. According to a report in The Times of India, Tusshar Kapoor said that his parents, Jeetendra and Shobha were in Nepal, which meant that they could not cast their vote. The report further stated that Ajay Devgn and Kajol were in Dubai for a prior family commitment and hence wouldn't vote too. Aamir Khan's nephew Imran Khan holds a US citizenship and hence is not a part of the voting proceedings in India.
