Naseeruddin Shah, Paresh Rawal and Annu Kapoor-starrer Dharam Sankat Mein was embroiled in controversy over its poster. The report stated that one of the posters of the film has Annu Kapoor wearing a cap that resembles a Muslim cap or a 'taqiyah,' and certain section of the Muslim community has taken offense to it. They had apparently written to the Indian Motion Pictures Producers' Association (IMPPA) and requested them to not use the cap. Following this, the makers changed the poster promptly.

Aamir Khan created a stir as he posed nude with a transistor for the first poster of PK. Anushka Sharma followed suit, as the actress dressed up in quirky outfit, along with a transistor. In one of posters, Anushka has dressed up just like Aamir Khan. Anushka's character in the film has an unusual name, Jagat Janini, and it seems like the makers had a deep thought behind naming her character so.

However, this is not the first time that a film's poster has been embroiled in controversies. There are many instances when a stunning poster is released to help garner eye-balls and create enough buzz before the film's release. Here's taking a look at some such film posters.

Aamir Khan created an uproar with his full monty act for the first poster of PK. The actor posed with a transistor for the first look of the film. Aamir's bold act created a lot of controversy, and also generated curiosity about the film. Following the first look, several other quirky posters of the film were released.

A rather titillating poster of Jism 2 was released. The sensual poster of the film was apparently copied from fashion designer Felix Bendish's poster for a fashion show in 2010 in Goa. Apart from this, the poster also became the talk of the town when reports came out in the media that the mysterious girl in the poster was not Sunny Leone but Nathalia Kaur of Department fame.

Shashilal Nair’s film Ek Chhoti Si Love Story, which was touted as an innocent love story about a 14-year-old teenage boy and his beautiful, lonely neighbour, made headlines for all the wrong reasons. The women's wing of Shiv Sena set fire to the posters of the controversial film at a theatre and also stopped its screening, in protest against objectionable scenes portraying actress Manisha Koirala in a bad light. Not only this, Manisha Koirala also demanded a stay order on the film alleging some of the intimate scenes were shot with a body double and inserted in the film without her permission. However, despite all the controversies and steamy scenes, the film failed to impress the audience and bombed at the box-office.

Model-turned-actress Poonam Pandey, has been controversy's favourite child. So how can her debut film not have its fair share of some? The poster showed Poonam contorted in various positions to spell out the film's name. There was quite an uproar over the controversial posters and a group of protesters tore the intimate posters and set them on fire.

Bollywood's first mainstream gay film Dunno Y... Na Jaane Kyun was also embroiled in controversies over its content. Touted as a film that handled the issue of gay relationships sensitively, the film's poster ran into trouble for depicting two bare-bodied males - the film's lead actors Kapil Sharma and Yuvraaj Parashar, in a passionate embrace. Though the film didn't set the cash registers ringing, all the controversies managed to create enough buzz for it.

Vidya Balan bowled everyone over with her performance in The Dirty Picture. However, the film's poster generated enough controversies. A city court in Andhra Pradesh directed the police to book actress Vidya Balan for posing indecently on the film's posters and other publicity material. The Nampally Criminal Court passed the order based on a petition filed by advocate SK Azad. The petitioner also mentioned that the hoarding and posters of The Dirty Picture were corrupting the minds of people and causing harm to society. There were also reports in the media which suggested that the petitioner requested the police to book Vidya Balan under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and also Indian Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.

Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan-starrer Kurbaan was also embroiled in controversy before its release when political party Shiv Sena objected to the movie's poster that flaunted actress Kareena Kapoor's bare back. The party even sent Kareena a saree, urging her to cover up. When Kareena was asked for her reaction on the same at an event for the film, she chose not to speak on the subject. However, her better half, Saif came to her rescue and said that if the promotional images had offended anyone unknowingly, then the matter would be looked in to. He also said that he doesn't see anything wrong in the poster and it is nothing but tasteful.
