Sunny Deol films that pack a punch, literally!

There have been many brawn icons throughout the world, but India has always pined for home-grown pahelwaans who can give any world-class body builder a run for their money. And thankfully, we haven't had a dearth of those. However, in the Hindi film industry, brawn has always been synonymous with Dharamendra. And when it comes to his son, one can easily say that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Sunny Deol, who can easily be dubbed as India's Rambo, managed to single-handedly (pun intended what with his dhai kilo ka haath) thrash the goons and restore justice in Hindi films for over two decades.

On his 58th birthday today, we list those Sunny Deol films that managed to pack in a punch, quite literally in this case.

Sunny shores: Sunny Deol screamed his lungs out as the passionate Sikh in the film Gadar but his character Tara Singh was a real softie at heart who could kill to get the love of his life back in India. The film is a beautiful cross-border love story and since Sunny Deol is at his best whenever put close to the LOC, Gadar can be counted as his best film till date. The film also has some beautiful songs that add to its watch-value.

Punch 'em: Sunny Deol's lament, "Ek kagaz par mohor nahi lagegi toh kya Tara Pakistan nahi jayega?" conveys both - the power of his conviction and the apparent threat.

Dates and 'court'ship: Damini can easily be termed as one of the best Sunny Deol films ever. Playing a rather emotional lawyer in the film, Sunny as Govind proves that he can even flex muscles apart from those in his biceps. The fact that Sunny bagged a Filmfare and also the prestigious National Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role only substantiates the film's place in this list.

Punch 'em: Be it with his "Taareekh pe Taareekh" dialogue or his smouldering, intense eyes that stare into your very soul, the film has every element you would expect off a Sunny Deol film.

Desi Rambo: Take a beefed up Sunny Deol, make him wear fitted tanks and defend a damsel-in-distress and you have all the makings of a blockbuster. That explains why the film went on to win seven Filmfare Awards including the Best Film Award, the year it released. While talks of a sequel starring Sunny is also in the offing, watching the original is absolutely recommended.

Punch 'em: With a dialogue that went, "Utaar ke phenk do ye wardi aur pehan lo Balwant Rai ke naam ka patta apne gale mein...Balwant Rai ke kutton," you know that you can't go wrong.

Have a blast, it will be your last!: While Sunny Deol didn't have much theatrics to display in this war film, he did a fine job of flexing those muscles to the fullest. Tackling the enemy troops with a focussed determination, Sunny ensured that the neighbouring nation heard him roar from across the ticket windows.

Punch 'em: Root for Sunny Deol as he walks around in really cool army gear while bombing enemies.

'Spy'ce it up: Understanding the need to explore different genres while in Bollywood, Sunny Deol donned the garb of a spy for the film Hero: The Love Story Of A Spy. Complete with a cool pair of spectacles, Sunny also managed to romance two ladies in the film. Quite a feat for the macho man and definitely worth a watch, this!

Punch 'em: If not for nothing else, then the film is a must-watch for Sunny's attempt at spying. The brawny man does make for a rather suave desi Bond.

Singh is King: Playing the quintessential 'Sardar' in the film, Sunny Deol won hearts as the turban-clad angry, young man. Returning back to his dialoguebaazi, the film is one of the more recent Sunny Deol films that should be on you to-watch list.

Punch 'em: Let's accept it that Sunny is at his best when he is mouthing some of the choicest threats at his enemies while pointing the fingers of his rather heavy hands at his opponent. And the film that he makes a comeback to his old style of acting in, is definitely not to be missed
