I am glad to see indie music flourishing like never before: Sangeet Haldipur
margin-bottom:10.0pt;mso-line-height-alt:11.75pt; background:whiteSangeet Haldipur, who was in Vadodara recently to perform at the Champaner Festival, says that he had a “great experience.” Along with his brother Siddharth, the singer-composer has sung and composed for Bollywood projects like Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai (two songs-Bandeya and Sahara Tu Mera), Murder 2 (Aa Zara) and OTT shows like Rana Naidu and The Trial: Pyaar Kaanoon Dhokha in recent times. Sangeet shares, “This was my first visit to Vadodara, and performing at a heritage site (Champaner) was an unforgettable experience. I have performed in Rajkot and Ahmedabad earlier and the audience has always been very receptive. I am also a big foodie and I love Gujarati food.” Excerpts from a chat:margin-bottom:10.0pt;mso-line-height-alt:11.75pt; background:white‘The success of indie music shows that the audience is truly the king now’margin-bottom:10.0pt;mso-line-height-alt:11.75pt; background:whiteRecently, my wife (singer Anusha Mani) and I worked on a thumri-based album (Carmonies) and we really enjoyed it. I am glad to see indie music flourishing like never before and this success shows that the audience is truly the king now. If you look at the top 50 songs of 2023, about 60 per cent are indie songs. Unlike 10-15 years back, when it took you months to just meet producers to make them listen to your songs, now there’s a lot of good work happening in the OTT space. Also, thanks to social media, you can just upload your work and get instant feedback.margin-bottom:10.0pt;mso-line-height-alt:11.75pt; background:white‘It was amazing to work with artistes like Sonu Nigam and Asees Kaur’ margin-bottom:10.0pt;mso-line-height-alt:11.75pt; background:whiteIt was amazing to work with artistes like Sonu Nigam and Asees Kaur in Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai. We had a lot of creative liberty while composing for that film and that helped. 2023 has been a great year because Siddharth and I have tried out different genres and got a lot of love from the audience. My father (composer and violinist Amar Haldipur) has worked with legends like Lata Mangeshkar, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and many others. Growing up in that kind of environment certainly helped me immensely.
