You might remember her from her Aasma days, but those days are far behind Vasuda Sharma. Expected to launch her debut solo effort Attuned Spirit independently soon, her first single off the album Jaagi Jaagi Raina is quickly catching on. From someone who won a popstar talent hunt in 2003, Vasuda went on to create three albums with the band. Working with industry biggies like
Vishal Bhardwaj, Salim-Sulaiman and Jatin-Lalit among others, she has now moved on to composing.
She debuted as a composer with Shahrukh Bola Khoobsurat Hai Tu. She has scored five songs for Govind Nihalani’s animation film Kamlu. Some training in guitar and ukulele (Hawaiian instrument) later, she even briefly studied at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, where she managed the feat of putting together a band of 11 members from different countries.
“I never imagined I’d take up music as a profession. After topping my batch in school, everyone expected me to make a career in civil services, so music was never in the running. But some friends told me about the popstars contest and so just for kicks, I went for the auditions (without my parents’ knowledge) because I had this innate urge to see where I stand! I got selected and things just took a 360 degree turn. It was during this whole process I realised that music was my ultimate calling,” says the pretty songstress.
