Abhijeet Bhattacharya gets legal notice after he calls Mahatma Gandhi 'Father Of Pakistan'

Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya has been in the news for quite some time now. Earlier his beef with Shah Rukh Khan made the headlines and currently, his statement where he called Mahatma Gandhi the ‘Father of Pakistan’ has sparked a raging controversy. Though the singer clarified that Gandhi was responsible for Pakistan’s existence and thus, he gave him the title, it didn’t settle down with people.

According to the Fresh Press Journal, the famous singer of the 90s said, “Music composer RD Burman was bigger than Mahatma Gandhi. Like Mahatma Gandhi was the father of the nation, RD Burman was the father of the nation in the world of music”

He continued, “Mahatma Gandhi was the father of the nation for Pakistan and not India. India already existed, Pakistan was carved out of India later. Gandhi has been mistakenly called the father of the nation for India. He was the one responsible for the existence of Pakistan."

Abhijeet Bhattacharya gets a legal noticeAfter this statement, a Pune-based lawyer named Asim Sarode sent a legal notice to the singer, says a News18 report. The lawyer has demanded a written apology from Abhijeet Bhattacharya. His notice warns of a criminal prosecution against the singer.

It goes without saying that when someone takes the name of a national hero like Mahatma Gandhi, he or she has to be very cautious of the works said. There will always be a fraction who might not agree with the decisions or policies of Mahatma Gandhi, but he is treated with utmost love and respect in the nation. As far as his take on the India-Pakistan partition is concerned, according to his legal notice, he said, ‘To accept partition, it will be over my dead body. So long as I am alive, I will never agree to the partition of India’," his legal notice reads.
