Influencer calls out Diljit Dosanjh for 'charging ₹20-25k per ticket', fans reveal US tickets were cheaper

Comedian and social media influencer Saumya Sahni has sparked a significant conversation regarding ticket prices for singer Diljit Dosanjh's upcoming Dil-Luminati India Tour. Following the rapid sell-out of tickets, Sahni expressed her concerns about the affordability of the concert for many middle-class fans in India.

The Dil-Luminati Tour, which is set to begin on October 26, 2024, has generated immense excitement among fans, leading to tickets being sold out within minutes of their release. The ticket prices ranged from Rs1,499 for the Silver Area to as high as Rs19,999 for the Fan Pit in cities like Delhi and Bengaluru.
In a video posted on social media, Sahni criticized Dosanjh for charging between Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 for a single ticket, arguing that such prices are unreasonable for many of his fans. She stated, "I might regret saying this later, but I absolutely have to ki ek Indian artiste ka koi haq nahi banta ki woh 20-25 hazar rupaye ek concert ke charge kare jab woh six cities play kar rahe hai (No Indian artist should charge ₹20-25 thousand for one concert in India when they are playing in so many cities)." Sahni emphasized that many of Dosanjh's core audience members are struggling financially, making such ticket prices inaccessible.

Sahni further elaborated on the disparity between ticket prices in India and those for international artists, noting, "Kids and families could have gone for his concert... they make so much money overseas that they could exempt these things for the country". She expressed her disappointment, stating, "₹15K for a concert? In this economy???? In this country?"
The public response to Sahni's remarks has been mixed. Some users on social media echoed her sentiments, suggesting that the high prices could alienate a significant portion of Dosanjh's fanbase. One user noted, "He’s gonna realise this when he’s singing and nobody sings back," while another expressed disbelief at the pricing, stating, "Being a middle-class person never expected Diljeet to be so drowned in fame and money lust".
A fan revealed that Diljit’s US concert tickets were more affordable, "We paid $150 per person for great seats for his concert in California." Conversely, some fans defended Dosanjh, arguing that ticket prices are justified given his global popularity. A supporter remarked, "Why should anyone exempt? Core audience ke pass paisa hai, isliye it got sold out no?" (If the core audience has money, that's why it sold out, right?). Others pointed out that the effort and talent behind creating a successful artist like Dosanjh warrant higher ticket prices, comparing it to luxury brands that are not accessible to everyone.
