Shreya Ghoshal talks about gender inequality in the music industry; Says Asha Bhosle and Lata Mangeshkar's time was different
Shreya Ghoshal has been a strong force in the Indian music industry. With a career spanning over more than 25 years, the star has seen a lot of ups and downs in her life in the entertainment world. In a recent interview, the singer opened up about her thoughts on the current music industry and how she feels women are not that present in the current music scenario.
The star also shared that if one were to observe the music charts today, most of the artists would not be women. She talked about how there are barely 10 female artists on the music list. “It is that lopsided. This was not how it was in our country. It is very ‘now’. This lopsidedness has come now,” she further added.
She also talked about the difference in how the times have changed in the past couple of years. “Jo jamana tha Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, jis tarah se unhone command kiya hain… they were bigger than all the other male singers. The singer recently featured on Raj Shamani’s latest podcast episode, where she opened up about her thoughts on the music industry. The famed playback singer also opened up about the differences in the West, as well as in India, when it comes to such singers and musicians. She cited during the interview that Taylor Swift and Rihanna are great examples of women dominating the music industry.
