Singer-lyricist
Priya Saraiya has fond memories of
late Wajid Khan
of the composer duo
Sajid-Wajid
. She recalls, "When we first met,
Wajid Bhai
had asked me, 'I've never seen a girl so young, writing a party song and expressing male emotions so well. How do you feel being in this male-dominated industry?'."
Priya says that this was when Priya and Sajid-Wajid worked on a song for the film 'Ajab Gajab Love' in 2011. This was the first and only time she had a chance to meet Wajid.
She adds, "I remember I had replied, "I feel scared sometimes Wajid Bhai. Directors or composers might not even consider giving me an opportunity assuming that I won't be able to deliver.' And, he put his hand on my head and said, 'Agar koi aisa feel karaye na, to sab se pehle mujhe batana, main dekh loonga!' He had filled my heart with confidence. Later too, he silently kept inspiring me. That was Wajid Bhai for me," she says.
Despite the fact that they never met, his words left a deep impact on Priya's mind almost a deacde ago. "We never met after that day, we never worked together after that film... but his words will be with me forever. Motivating me to be confident and keep doing what I do best. You will always, always be in my prayers," she says.
