Sona Mohapatra REVEALS why she turned down ‘Zaalima’ from Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Raees’

Sona Mohapatra is not the one to mince words and often hits headlines for her social media posts. While she has crooned a reprised version of Arijit Singh’s popular song ‘Zaalima’ from Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Raees’, Sona recently revealed some interesting details about it. She told Mumbai Mirror that the reprise version has some interesting “gender-political” leanings and that her “DIY video should be taken with a pinch of salt.”


She was apparently offered the original song from the film and spilling the beans on why she decided to turn it, Sona said, “Few know that I had been called to sing the last few lines of the original film version, but I couldn’t fathom why only the last few lines were reserved for the female voice. (I) didn’t think it was worthy to be part of such a lopsided presentation of ‘romance’.”

Sona Mohapatra is using lockdown period to work on original music. "During the lockdown period, I have this newfound energy to work on a variety of music. There are no commercial pressures, no race against time to meet a deadline and and it's now that I am doing some of my best, most gratifying work.
