Talat Aziz: Rains inspire me to sing compositions in Megh Malhar
The monsoons are on in full swing, giving almost a romantic touch to the outdoors with cool weather, lush greenery and dark skies. No wonder then that it has fans everywhere from poets, song writers, nature lovers and more. Talat Aziz is one of them. In a chat, the Mumbai-based ghazal singer reveals how the rains inspire his creativity, what his go-to rainy-day indulgence is, and more! With a heavy downpour forecast for the next few days, you are sure to catch him listening to his fave ghazals. Shares Talat, “I definitely love the monsoon; it is a harbinger of good news after the hot and humid summer. If I have to choose my fave songs at this time, they would be, ‘Garaj baras pyaasi dharti par phir paani se maula’ and ‘Barsaat ki bheegi raaton mein phir koi suhaani yaad aayi’.”
‘I like having piping-hot pakoras or samosas with chutney in this season’
Vocalists and singers are known to be inspired by the beauty of the monsoons and it is that way for Talat too. Do the monsoons inspire his singing, we ask? He says, “Yes, the rains do inspire me and I sing compositions in Megh and Megh Malhar (a Hindustani classical raga). It gives me peace and tranquillity.” Rain and music apart, the wet weather is also apt for another combination – chai and pakoras and at his home, there is one hot snack that he won’t miss out on. “I like having piping-hot pakoras or samosas with chutney in this season,” he adds.
