Music composer and playback singer
Vardan Singh
who rose to fame with his song '
Kabhi Yun Bhi
' from the movie '
Ishq Junoon
' is recently making headlines for his new track,
'Kya Tera Roothna Zaroori Hai'
, a
heartbreak
ballad. ETimes got in touch with the singer who has crooned and composed the track. From speaking about earning a place in the
UK Top 10 music list
to composing music for Salman Khan--Vardan spoke at length about everything. Excerpts:
Tell us about your new song? This song is one of the most romantic tracks out there. I have enjoyed singing and composing this song. If you watch the video, it beautifully portrays a story of heartbreak, regrets, and love. This song is sad and romantic at the same time. The line 'Kya Tera Roothna Zaroori Hai' is highly emotional.
What kind of singer would you classify yourself as?I can compose and sing any song which comes my way--be it an upbeat song or a mellow melody. I'm not picky about the style of songs I sing. Despite this, I find myself drawn more to romantic songs and I love singing them. Additionally, people have always told me that my voice is well-suited to romantic songs.
What made you decide to pursue a career in singing? It has been a passion of mine since childhood. Music was the only thing I could pursue as a career, and I was very stubborn about it. I began my career with background scores, then switched to singing. However, composing and singing have the same weightage for me.
Your song 'Kabhi Yun Bhi' from 'Ishq Junoon' broke many records, it even got the place in UK top 10 music list? Tell us about your experience.I have been working for a long time in Bollywood but 'Ishq Junoon' was my first song as a composer. The film had a really good song and good composers but it was all about the timing and it has been 5 years since then. It was one of the best experiences as it gave me a lot of recognition and even now I feel the need to make a song that creates an aura. Always hoping for the best.
What do you have to say about the current independent music
scene in India?India makes a lot of movies with tons of songs that are hits. However, album songs have been re-emerging in recent years. Now there are many songs from albums which the audience prefers, and social media is vital in spreading it and making it popular. I feel independent music is making a mark in India as well.
You have provided the background music for films like 'Yamla Pagla Deewana
', 'Main Aurr Mrs Khanna', among others, Which one is your favourite?I was associated with background music for a long time, I was assisting Mr Sanjoy Chowdhary, who is a very prominent name in the industry. I got an opportunity to work for hits like 'MS Dhoni', 'Yamla Pagla Deewana', 'Baby', and many more. Though I still work for the people in the industry, I also take some time out for myself every now and then. But the best one out of all this is, 'Yamla Pagla Deewana'. That film's title song was very iconic and a remix. 'Main Aurr Mrs Khanna' was a
Salman Khan film and being associated with it was a very big deal for me.
You were very active till 2016, then you were on a break till 2019. How important is it for a creative person to take time off? While artistes should never take breaks, some personal details can't be revealed openly. Nevertheless, I am enjoying the moment now that many of my things are set to release and I am not sure what will happen next, since I am enjoying the present moment. Everything depends on luck. Nevertheless, it is essential to stay engaged.
