The upcoming weekend is touted to be a musical one with
World Music Day
on June 21. The National Centre for the Performing Arts' at-home digital series will see variety with Indian musical roots, to Jazzified Broadway hits.
The first 'Straddling Three Spheres: Working in Theatre, TV and film' is a straight talk by
Stephen Daldry. He is the storyteller and director behind acclaimed works such as 'The Crown', 'Billy Elliot', 'The Hours' and 'The Reader', several of which have won or been nominated for the Academy, Golden Globe and BAFTA Awards among many others.
In this straight talk, he tells us how you can stay true to your story when shifting from stage and musical to television to film. This event was originally a part of
Tata Literature Live
held November 15, 2018.
The next,
Jazz
Goes to Broadway will see a range of stellar jazz musicians accompanied by a full-blown horn section that will perform timeless Broadway hits from 'The Phantom of the Opera', 'Fiddler on the Roof', 'The Sound of Music', 'Jesus Christ Superstar' and many more. There will be some evergreen melodies, freshly arranged with swing, verve and many foot-tapping improvisations from the amazing talent on stage.
On the day itself, versatile singer
Javed Ali will be presenting some Sufiana songs. These compositions will beautifully narrate the idea of love, longing and union with the beloved transcending the manmade boundaries of region, religion, caste and creed.
