Zubeen Garg's funeral: Fans break down as they gather on streets to catch a glimpse of the late singer

Singer Zubeen Garg passed away after a swimming accident in Singapore on September 19, 2025. The Singapore police rescued him and rushed him to the nearest hospital. However, he couldn't survive and took his last breath. The mortal remains of the late musician have been brought to Assam and kept for the people to pay their last respects to him. Now, fans have flocked to pay their final tribute in large numbers.

The streets of Guwahati are reportedly brimming with fans who have stepped out to bid an adieu to the late singer. They have lined up on the road to catch a glimpse of him for one last time. They even sang his popular songs while breaking down in tears. People from all walks of life got down on the streets and showered flowers on the ambulance that brought Zubeen Garg's mortal remains. People have shut down their shops as a tribute to him.


Fans are even chanting his song 'Maya Bini', which he requested that people sing after his passing.

The Assam government has declared a three-day mourning officially as the state icon passed away. The singer has crooned not just in Assamese or Hindi songs, but also in Kannada, Telugu, Odia, and more.

As per reports, the singer's mortal remains were brought to India from Singapore in Air India Flight AI 2116. Later, a special chartered flight was arranged for his next journey from Delhi to Guwahati.

Initially, it was reported that the singer passed away during a scuba diving accident. However, later, after a video surfaced online, reports stated that Zubeen Garg experienced a seizure while swimming in the sea during his yacht trip. The cops are now investigating the matter.

According to Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, several FIRs have been filed against Shyam Kanu Mahanta, the chief organizer of the Northeast Festival.
