Two plays discussed at Meet The Director session at 8th Theatre Olympic

Talking about his production ‘Attends, Attends, Attends’, Cedric Charron said, “Theatre is a celebration of life. It has various layers of emotions. We wanted to achieve the post-mortem state of life after death. We do not follow any particular method, we just use guidelines. Structuring the play breaks the natural flow and when I am on stage, I follow my instincts more than any rules.” Praising the production, Diwan Singh Bajeli said, “The production was very passionate. The actor was doing strenuous body movements and was completely immersed in sweat. It was an exhilarating experience to watch.”

Talking about his play, Asit Basu said, “I don’t believe any theatre in this world is not political. I always look at both the positive and negative sides of a character and that creates a drama on stage. Human emotions are very complex and sometimes they don’t need words. Even the silence and subtext plays a very important part in my theatre. I don’t really follow loud theatre.”

A colourful performance

Apart from the session various cultural activities were also performed at the ongoing theatre festival. Artists from Assam, Haryana,

Himachal Pradesh

and Odisha participated in the event. While the folk performance of Assam enchanted the audience with its soothing symphonies and lovely dance movements, folk dancers from Haryana captivated the audience with resounding beats of Dhol. Chhau performance from Odisha also mesmerised the audience with its brilliant display of tribal folk art along with folk dancers from Himachal Pradesh who virtually transported the audience to the quaint hills of the Himalayas.
