In celebration of the release of her latest song, ‘Houdini,’ Dua Lipa sat down with Warner Music Korea for a chat with her Korean fans. During the interaction, the popular singer-songwriter answered questions submitted by fans, and one of the topics that came up was her collaborations with K-Pop artists.
A fan was curious about how Dua Lipa formed connections with Korean artists, considering her collaborations with BLACKPINK and MAMAMOO's Hwasa. In response, Dua Lipa opened up about her admiration for BLACKPINK, mentioning that her interest in working with Korean artists started because she was a genuine fan of the group.
Dua Lipa recounted that in the early stages of her career, she spontaneously wrote the song ‘Kiss And Make Up’ and decided to send it to BLACKPINK, wondering if they would be interested in collaborating. To her delight, they were, and the collaboration resulted in the 2018 track ‘Kiss and Make Up.’
The singer expressed how enjoyable it was to witness BLACKPINK translate her lyrics into their own unique style. This initial collaboration marked the beginning of her connections with talented Korean artists.
Dua Lipa also shared that her friendship with BLACKPINK has endured since then. Notably, BLACKPINK's Jennie joined her on an episode of her podcast, ‘Dua Lipa: At Your Service,’ in 2023. This friendly connection allowed for further collaboration and highlighted the bond Dua Lipa has formed with the K-Pop scene.
In addition to her collaboration with BLACKPINK, Dua Lipa mentioned working with MAMAMOO's Hwasa for a remix of ‘Physical’ in 2020. She has also been seen spending time with CL, emphasizing her genuine interest and connections with various Korean artists.
