K-Pop singer PSY, who is best known for his hit songs like 'Gangnam Style' and 'Gentleman,' has been booked for possession of proxy medication and for violating the South Korean 'Medical Service Act.'
On August 27, as per reports from K-Media news outlet DongA Ilbo, the Seodaemun Police Station booked PSY under the belief that he has been getting prescriptions for psychotropic medications Xanax and Stilnox from a general hospital in Seoul since 2022. What violates the law is that he has allegedly been getting these medications without any prior checkup with medical health professionals. Not only that, but the prescriptions would often also be picked up by his manager rather than the singer himself.
PSY's agency issues a statement
As soon as the news was shared, rumours and speculations about the idol started spreading online. The singer's agency issued a prompt statement on the matter and shared their side. In the official statement, they share that some of the allegations against the idol 'are true' and that they are truly 'sorry' for the distress this has caused fans.
Their statement read, "PSY has been diagnosed with a chronic sleep disorder and has been taking sleeping medication in accordance with his doctor’s prescription. His use of sleeping pills has always been under medical supervision, with prescriptions given for the appropriate dosage."
While the statement alleged that the singer had officially been diagnosed with a medical condition that required the medicines, they admitted to the fact that his managers would often go to the hospital to collect the medication.
Apologising to everyone, they also shared that the police are looking into the matter and that they are fully cooperating with the investigation as well.
