Life lessons from BTS: From RM’s inspirational words about acceptance to Jin’s quote about never 'giving up'

BTS is best known for their soulful voices, their powerful moves on the stage, as well as their funny and candid personality. However, over the years of their career, the K-pop group has also managed to give the world a few life lessons that we should always remember and live by.

'Happiness doesn't require much': Suga

In an old interview with Vogue, the artist emphasized how he is learning to take days slowly, and how not a lot of things occupy his mind these days. He shared that he is also trying to find the value in smaller and simpler things in his life, such as getting decaf coffee or getting up early in the morning. “I’ve realised that happiness doesn’t require much, and it can be quite simple,” he adds, emphasizing how life can be simple and meaningful simultaneously.

3/6

'Just speak yourself': RM

In his memorable speech at the United Nations General Assembly, RM shared his thoughts on world issues and the importance of the message that BTS has been trying to communicate to the world, which is to love yourself. He once said during the speech, “No matter who you are, where you’re from, your skin color, or your gender identity - just speak yourself. Find your name and voice by speaking yourself.” He shared that it is important to speak your truth and be proud of who you are and your identity.

'Uselessness is useful': Jin

In another interview with Vogue, Jin talked about what he thought of the word rest and how the definition has changed over the years. He emphasized during the interview that rest often should be selfish and for yourself only. He stated “a lot of people try to do something useful in their free time, like something that will help them pad out their résumé. But I believe that uselessness is useful! I believe that you need to have days that other people consider wasteful, to be able to focus more on useful things later.” He shared that giving time to yourself and resting is not something bad, but something that the human mind and body need every once in a while. Not everything needs to be meaningful or useful.

5/6

'Effort makes you': Jungkook

BTS’ youngest member, or the ‘golden maknae’, has proved himself to be a multifaceted legend. The star shared a quote in the ‘BTS Begins Program Book’ where he emphasized the need to put effort into things in life. Many times, due to circumstances, or simply not believing in ourselves, or thinking that it is not the right time. He encouraged fans and the world to take the moment as it is and do whatever they can to achieve their goal. His quote read, “Effort makes you. You will regret it someday if you don’t do your best now. Don’t think it’s too late but keep working on it. It takes time, but there’s nothing that gets worse due to practicing. So practice. You may get depressed, but it’s evidence that you are doing good.”

6/6

'Keep trying without giving up': Jin

The eldest member of the group gives a life lesson about how one should never give up what they are doing, regardless of the hurdles. Oftentimes, people give up because of issues and failures; however, Jin’s words inspire people to continue and get back up even after those failures. During a segment from BTS’ concert documentary film titled ‘Break the Silence: The Movie’, Jin had said, “Those who keep trying without giving up are the ones who succeed.”
