Somi, former I.O.I. member, has unfortunately found herself at the centre of a controversial debate, as her recent post goes viral.

Somi’s recent post was criticised on fan forums

Popular K-pop idol Somi recently shared a series of photos on her social media account. The idol shared a couple of selfies and behind-the-scenes photos while wearing a baby-pink ensemble with her iconic blonde hair. While the photos are innocent and did not give rise to the controversy, a discussion arose on a popular fan forum regarding her outfit.

Idol accused of supporting a specific political party; netizens react

Amid political sensitivity due to elections, Somi’s red leggings became the hot topic for criticism. A post on the fan forum went viral, criticising Somi for wearing red leggings to show her support for the conservative party in the country.

Netizens took the online platform by storm and criticised the idol for her clothing choices and even pointed out the fact that she had worn red and posted something similar during the last election as well.

One person commented that “Somi posted something red on Instagram during the last presidential election too, and now she’s uploaded pics wearing pretty red items again.”

Some netizens, however, came to the idol’s defence and stated that people were overanalysing things too much and that the idol did not deserve to get criticised over “a pair of red stockings”.

One netizen even commented, “Wow, why is everyone chanting over colours so much this time? People are overanalysing what folks wore to polling stations… Celebrities are being scrutinised one by one… Was it always like this? I don’t think it used to be this intense.”
