TRIGGER WARNING: This article includes references to domestic violence.A dowry harassment case has been registered against veteran filmmaker S Narayan, his wife Bhagyavathi and their son Pavan at the Jnanabharathi police station in Bengaluru. As per the reports, the complaint was filed by Pavithra, Pavan's wife, alleging years of physical and mental harassment over dowry demands.

FIR filed at Jnanabharathi police station

According to a report by TOI Bengaluru, Pavithra filed the FIR on September 1, claiming that she was harassed for dowry post her marriage to Pavan, which began in 2021. She also claimed that instead of getting support from her husband, she was forced to financially support the household's needs, with her husband yet to complete his education.

"Since Pavan hasn't completed his degree, he has no job. So, I started working to look after the family," she stated. She also mentioned that when Pavan tried to establish the Kala Samrat Film Academy, his demands for money increased. To help him, Pavithra claimed she pledged her mother’s gold and even took out a professional loan of Rs 10 lakh. However, she alleged that only part of the loan was repaid and the rest was ignored, leaving her in financial distress.

Dowry demands despite expensive wedding gifts

She further stated that her father had already gifted Pavan a gold ring worth over Rs 1 lakh at the time of marriage and also covered the wedding expenses. Yet their demands continued. "Despite receiving the dowry, they assaulted me and demanded more money," Pavithra told police.Additionally, the complaint also suggests Pavan allegedly took Rs 1 lakh from Pavithra and Rs 75,000 from Pavithra's mother to buy a car.It is also reported that the police officials have issued notices to Narayan, Bhagyavathi, and Pavan to appear for investigation.S Narayan is known for his romantic film 'Chaitrada Premanjali', which became a major hit.
