His passion for the arts, culture, and, more importantly, the deep connection to his roots, is well known. So when veteran actor Anant Nag was in

Mangaluru

recently, he enjoyed reconnecting with his

Konkani

roots. The actor who spent memorable years in Shirali (Uttara Kannada) and at Ananda Ashrama (Kanhangad) has also often spoken about his affiliation with the Konkani mutts in

Kudla

. It is no surprise, then, that when he was invited by the Young Chitrapur Saraswats Association (the community he hails from) for a felicitation programme earlier this week, he made sure to attend it. “Anant sir was in Mangaluru for a day and was keen to pay a visit to the prominent temples of the community, so we went to Uma Maheshwari

temple

and Venkatramana temple. He was thrilled and even went to personally feed bananas to the cows that are looked after by the temple authorities,” shares Mukund Kamath, who accompanied the actor on his visits across Kudla. “During the course of the day, we saw just how well versed he is in shlokas and the deep reverence he has for our culture and tradition. He is very aware of the rich history of the Konkani community,” says Mukund, adding that Anant also sampled a vegetarian meal of local delights and relished Mangaluru buns and batate ambade. He then attended the felicitation programme and sung Bhagyada Lakshmi Baramma and Identa Lokavayya, wrapping his trip, literally, on a high note.
