Can’t escape the term nepotism, but I don’t believe in it: Aayush Upendra
Much before he’s even come on the big screen, Aayush Upendra is a sensation through his reels revolving around biking and now has a sizable fan following of his own on social media. “Coincidentally, these reels caught the attention of director Purushottam, who sent me a message online about the possibility of doing a film. The character in my debut film will see me playing a bike enthusiast. He said he could feel the freedom I experience on the road and how alive I become on my rides. The role in the film also captures that spirit. He’s also playful and a fitness freak, just like me. And here we are today, poised to go on set soon,” smiles Aayush, clearly excited about his big debut.
‘I’M PROUD TO HAVE LANDED THIS FILM ON MY MERIT’
My parents, Upendra and Priyanka, are self-made, and they’ve always taught us to earn what we want. The director saw potential in me, not in my surname. Yes, I took my parents’ opinion before signing on. But this is not a typical star kid’s launch. For me, they’re just my parents. And I’ll always just be their kid.
‘NEPOTISM IS A CONVERSATION STARTER FOR MANY’
Even though I don’t believe in nepotism, it is something I can’t escape. I’ve always loved acting and worked hard to prepare, through college, plays, and drama. Nothing has been handed to me, unlike what others may think.
‘ONE NEEDS TO HAVE A THICK SKIN TO MAINTAIN A SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE’
Life today is all about technology, phones, and social media. I enjoy it, but I’m also aware that one small mistake can bring in a lot of criticism. That’s why I don’t take myself too seriously. And until I accomplish something, I don’t want people to celebrate me.
