Critical Keerthanegalu deals with the problems of betting during IPL: Kumaar
Director Kumaar proved his mettle with
"When I made Chemistry of Kariappa, I chose a humorous way to address problems faced by families. This time, I chose to look at IPL betting in the same way. When one sees people addicted to betting from afar, they look like buffoons, especially when they lose. I have chosen to narrate this film through this same comical aspect," he explains.
Sharing more details, Kumaar says, "The film is high on comedy and entertainment while dealing with the addiction and ill-effects of IPL betting. The film’s premise is that of a frustrated person appealing to a court to ban IPL as it is the root cause of many problems. I think this is an apt time for its release. The promotional material has become popular among youngsters."
The filmmaker has chosen real life stories as inspiration, he reveals. "The film is set across Kundapura, Belagavi, Mandya and Bengaluru. I have four parallel tracks that run in this film and each of those have been inspired by real incidents. We see so many youngsters, be it students, working professionals, doctors, film industry folks or even policemen themselves, who indulge in betting during this time. IPL has become nothing short of a business," he adds.
Critical Keerthanegalu does not have a conventional hero or heroine. Kumar says, "I have a good cast that includes some great performers. We have Tabla Nani, Suchendra Prasad, Apoorva, Rajesh Nataranga, Apoorva Bharadwaj, Mahendra and Puttaraju of Drama Juniors fame, Yash Shetty and Aruna Balaraj among many others."
Did the success of his first film not want him to take the conventional route of working with a known leading actor? "I had offers to do films for other leading actors after Chemistry of Kariappa did well. But I have wanted to narrate content-based subjects. Also, this film is a continuation of Chemistry of Kariappa in a way as it has three characters from that film here as well, though they deal with a different problem," he answers.
