Actress
Harshika Poonacha recently revealed this video of her's where she met veteran Bollywood entertainer and the Hero No 1
Govinda at an event. Harshika had a surprise for all her followers as well as Kannada film fans as she got Govinda to sing legendary actor late Dr Rajkumar's evergreen romantic track Endendu Ninnanu Marethu from the film Eradu Kanasu with her. This got us to dig more into understanding Govinda's connect with Kannada as well as his affiliation and association with Dr Rajkumar.
Harshika revealed to us that Govinda has known Dr Rajkumar and his family closely and the latter would even call on him and visit his home in Mumbai whenever he was there. Govinda incidentally also featured in the 1980s film song Bin Tere Kuch Bhi Nahi, where the tune was lifted from the evergreen hit Endendu Ninnanu Marethu.
We also were pleasantly surprised to know that Govinda has had an association with the Kannada language right from his childhood. Apparently, the actor's nanny used to be a Kannadiga and Govinda grew up speaking Kannada too and listening to Kannada music, which was one of the reasons why he could sing the song so well. His association with the language and the city grew stronger in the 1990s, when he shot for many of his films in the state and also travelled from here to shoot at Ooty. With so much of an intimate association with Kannada, we are only wondering how come no one has chosen to cast him often in Kannada films...
