EXCLUSIVE: Indrajit Lankesh to bring father P Lankesh's works to life

has been working hard on a project close to his heart. He is now coming up with an app that will have a lot of books and columns by his father writer and filmmaker P

in the form of audio books and podcasts. Titled Lankesh, this app will have all his novels, novellas, short stories and even some other film-related work like the biographies of noted actors.
"My father's books are the highest selling ones in

Kannada

. We plan on reaching to reach the second and third generations since the time my father began writing, as they aren't as exposed to his work. This was one of the biggest reasons for me to embark on this project. This will be a completely free app, so we want to attract as many youngsters to be exposed to native literature," he says.
The filmmaker is planning on phasing these works in two parts, the first will have dubbing artistes lending their voice, while the second will have known names from the industry. "Technicians have been hit by the

pandemic

. I thought I should support our dubbing artistes and will be paying them for the services as they will bring around 20 books of my father to life in the first phase. I then want to ask some of the actors who have good voices to support me too," he says. He also adds that there will be biographies of famous people including Ravichandran, Shankar Nag, Vishnuvardhan and his own father that will be converted into audio books too.

And, on a parting note, he reveals, "I am all set for my next project. It is an adaptation of a beautiful short story by my father, which has a lot of meaning and relevance even today. I have found my producer, but will reveal details once I am done with casting. The script work is ready."
