Through an array of commercial hits and critical successes, Yash has stamped with authority that he has every right to reign supreme

If there's one actor who would be the defining force of the past decade, then it probably is the Rocking Star Yash. Yash's journey to the top is awe-inspiring for his achievements stem from sheer will, hard work, along with the added pressure of being a complete outsider. He moved up the ranks diligently - from being a TV actor to brief stints in supporting roles - and found fame on his own merit. Incidentally, his first bonafide, commercial hit 'Kirataka' completes 10 years of its release today, and what better occasion than this to look back at five of his defining performances over the years.

Kirataka (2011)

Perhaps one of the earliest and best examples of Yash's potential as an actor, 'Kirataka' is a must-watch for any true, or new, Yash fan. Tapping into his inner Mandya boy, Yash portrayed the character of Malla with astuteness and vibrance and filled it with his own touches of the nativity. Despite being a remake of a Tamil film, 'Kirataka' is a fine example of how a sensible yet commercial film should be made and Yash's performance serves a great deal to its success.

Drama (2012)

A potential collaboration between Yash and director Yogaraj Bhat always seemed under the radar but when it did come to life, many realized that this was always meant to be. Yash, along with his partners-in-crime Sathish Ninasam, Radhika Pandit, and Suchendra Prasad, fares brilliantly well in this satirical take on social conventions, and thanks to the humorous setup of the film, Yash was also able to showcase his funny side in the film. The gags featuring him and Ninasam particularly stand out as the camaraderie between the two is the main charm of the film.

Googly (2013)

Pawan Wadeyar's 2013 rom-com showcases a new and more urbane side to Yash which comes off as very refreshing and charming. The film also stars Kriti Kharbanda with whom Yash shares great chemistry, and with an interesting story at the core of it, a huge hit was on the cards right from the word go. From Yash's modish look to the songs and romance, the film brims with great moments and entertainment.

Mr. and Mrs. Ramachari (2014)

A film which confirmed that Radhika Pandit and Yash made up, quite indeed, the best onscreen pairing of the past decade, 'Mr. and Mrs. Ramachari' is a treat to every Yash fan. It also marked the debut of director Santhosh Ananddram who steers the film towards success through his leading man's highly assertive performance. Be it as the ardent lover or the doting son in the film, Yash shines all the way through - even the action sequences of the film are quite noteworthy which display Yash's full range as a commercial hero.

K.G.F: Chapter 1 (2018)

If all the films in his versatile filmography had one singular purpose, it would that of leading up to the pinnacle of all experiences, K.G.F.: Chapter 1. Yash would come on board to breathe life into Prashanth Neel's grandest of visions and the former would fit perfectly into the groove to suggest that the role of Rocky Bhai was what he was always destined to play. The film's mammoth success across the country, including the cultural fandom it acquired over time, was unprecedented at the time but it took very little time for the global audience to realize Yash's might. Today, he stands tall as one of the biggest actors in the business.
