Happy Birthday, Rakshit Shetty: From quitting his engineering job to being a successful actor – take a look at his journey in films

Rakshit Shetty is called ‘Man of the Moment’ in the Kannada film industry. His passion for films made him quit his job and started his career as a short film artist. After supporting roles, he marked his debut as a lead role in ‘Tughlak’. A multitalented person, Rakshit is popular as a director, actor and lyricist. On his 37th birthday here’s taking a look at his journey in the Kannada film industry.

Rakshit Shetty was born in 1986 in Udupi, where he completed his schooling. He graduated in engineering from a college in Mangalore. Rakshit Shetty was a Huli Kunitha dancer during his school days. He worked as a software engineer for two years in a private company and later quit his professional career to pursue acting and became a theatre artist.

Rakshit Shetty faced a long struggle to enter the film industry and get a chance to prove his acting prowess. He started building his career as a short filmmaker with ‘Let's Kill Gandhi’ and others. Many of his short films have not been completed and released. Later, in 2010 he got a chance to play a role in ‘Nam Areal Ondh Dina’ and rest as they say is history.

After a big struggle in the industry, Rakshit made his debut in Kannada movies with ‘Nam Areal Ondh Dina’ in 2010. In the same year, he also played the lead role in the movie ‘Thuglak’ which gave him a lot of recognition in the industry. And his film ‘Simple Agi Ondh Love Story’ earned him a lot of fans.

After acting in two movies, ‘Simple Agi Ondh Love Story’ emerged as a huge success. Rakshit went on to act in ‘Ulidavaru Kandante’ which he also directed. In his decade long career, Rakshit has been a part of several successful movies like ‘Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu’, ‘Kirik Party’ and ‘Avane Srimannarayana’ to name a few. Rakshit is currently busy with ‘777 Charlie’ and ‘Sapta Sagaradaache Yello’.

Rakshit Shetty started his career as an actor and went on to experiment with direction with ‘Ulidavaru Kandante’, he has also penned a few scripts. He has written the script for ‘Kirik Party’, ‘Avane Srimannarayana’ and currently he is writing a script for ‘Richie’, and ‘Punyakoti’. He also produced several films like ‘Bheema Sena Nala Maharaja’ and ‘Humble Politician Nograj’. After a long struggle in the film industry, Rakshit has emerged as an all-rounder.
