‘I made a youthful film to prove I am not an old-school filmmaker’

Director Sringeri Suresh explains the inspiration behind his film
As someone who has been around in Sandalwood for a while, filmmaker Sringeri Suresh was often seen as a ‘veteran’, which he says, was not helping him grow in the industry. “I heard from various circles that I was not being entrusted with a project as director because people thought that I am old-school in my approach. But they were OK to have me onboard as co-director.

Weekend

is a film that I directed to prove that I could make a new-age,

youth-oriented

movie,” he says. The story, which revolves around the lives of techies, has been inspired from his interactions with friends from the software industry. “I used to hang out with a bunch of juniors, for whom weekends were about having fun. After three consecutive weekends of the same, I scolded them about only seeking thrill and then did not get invited again. That is when I thought it could make for an interesting tale set in a commercial film format,” explains Suresh. The film has been produced by Mayura Motion Pictures.
