He made his Kannada film debut in the hit film Dandupalya in which he played a key member of the dreaded gang of the same name. And now, Makrand Deshpande is teaming up once again with Dandupalya director Srinivasa Raju and the film's lead actress Pooja Gandhi for his second Kannada film, Abhinetri. Recalling his experience while he was shooting for Dandupalya, Makrand said it used to be ‘painful’ to wake up in the morning knowing he’d have to a play a 'rakshas' role that involved him having to act in rape and murder scenes.
He said that he was relieved that he was playing quite a different role in Abhinetri -- that of an actor who is primarily responsible for the success of an actress, played by Pooja Gandhi. However, he added that playing all sorts of role is part of what it means to be an actor.
