Ishtakamya: A visual and musical treat

Celebrated filmmaker Nagathihalli Chandrasekhar is back after a self-imposed two-year hiatus. The writer-director is known to make unique films and, this time around, he is bringing to life the popular novel

The film of the same name releases today, and the director tells us why you should book your tickets to watch his film' * The film is based on a popular novel and comes at a time when there aren't many movies that are based on books. This gives the film a different dimension, so audiences are assured of a different experience when they watch the movie. Although it is based on a novel, parts of the story have been changed to make it relevant in today's day and age. * The movie has three relatively new artistes in lead roles ' Vijay Suriya, Mayuri and Kavya Shetty ' and all of them have a freshness in their performances. At the same time, there are also senior artistes such as Rangayana Raghu, Prakash Belawadi, Mandya Ramesh and B Jayashree, so there is a fine balance between the young and the old. * This is a musical film. All the five songs are raaga-based and importance has been given to the lyrics, so they are communicated as poetry. One of Kuvempu's poems, Jenaguva, has been adapted into a song. This has not been done just as a promotional tool, but because it suits the film. * Ishtakamya promises to be a visual treat for audiences as it has been shot in beautiful locales across Karnataka. The crew has shot in some unexplored areas of the state that haven't been captured on celluloid before. It is also a family entertainer that can be watched by all age groups. * The feedback that I have got over the years is that my films are usually different. If you compare the 14 films that I have done, no two films are alike. I believe in experimenting, and no matter how well Ishtakamya does, I will never do a movie like this again.
