Kiranraj’s spiritual high in Thailand
Director Kiranraj K, who was in Bangkok for his debut 777 Charlie’s Thai screening, went on a sacred quest
Kiranraj K had never imagined that a modern, pulsating city like Bangkok had so much spiritually to offer. The director, who was in the Thai capital for the screening of his debut 777 Charlie in the local language, also explored its sights and sounds. “After the success of the film, the entire team including Rakshit Shetty sir, had taken off to Phuket to celebrate. That break was about letting our hair down and hitting the party trail. Yet, on this trip, I wanted it to be a personal and spiritual journey. So along with my hosts, I visited all the temples,” shares Kiran.
‘Indian and Thai culture are similar’
Kiran has come away stupefied at the similarities between the two cultures. “They are reverential about gods and elders, just like us. Offerings to God, is a norm, just like Indians. Most importantly, I was surprised to see idols of goddess Lakshmi, Rama and Ganapathi. At one temple, priests came in at 2 am to perform puja. I was also charmed by the Buddhist temples,” he avers.
‘Trip uplifted me spiritually’It’s been a busy year for Kiran, especially with his labour of love hitting screens earlier this year. “I had worked long and hard. Post release, there was a lot of travel. Bangkok was the most recent. In the midst of travel and work, the temples provided spiritual succour. I am high on life now,” he trails off.
