Kishore’s next, Dhehi, is a
film
that is about the philosophy of
kalaripayattu
and how it can improve one’s life. The film is touted to be India’s first
martial arts
film that celebrates the ancient martial art form, and has been made by a gurukul in Bengaluru. And to play his part with conviction,
Kishore had to train in kalaripayattu, which led to him sustaining injuries in the process.
“The training for kalaripayattu is extensive and is something you do over a lifetime. I trained for about a month, for what was required from my character in the film. It was tough, especially handling all the weapons with my limited knowledge in the martial art form. We, cinema people, tend to get overconfident when we have learnt a little bit of something, and end up making mistakes. Since I was shooting with the children from the gurukul who are trained in the art form, it reduced my chances of getting injured. But in the process of overdoing things, I did sustain an injury,” says Kishore, with a chuckle.
