Looking for meaty roles to carry forward Kantara’s success: Swaraj Shetty

Kantara fame actor Swaraj Shetty is on cloud nine. After his portrayal as Rishab Shetty’s brother Guruva, he has been flooded with offers in Sandalwood. Not one to jump in headlong, Swaraj is treading carefully looking for films with a soul.
‘HARD WORK HAS PAID OFF’The 12 year industry veteran reveals, “I have done Tulu serials, Kannada films, yet it was Kantara that gave me a much-needed break. My years of hard work and perseverance has paid off. However, I don’t want to sign movies just for the sake of it. I am looking for meaty roles which help me prove my mettle.”
PLAYING KAMBALA RACERKambala enters the actor’s life yet again – he bagged a major role in the Rajendra Singh Babu directed Veera Kambala, which explores the race. “I play the role of a racer who has an indelible connection with the buffaloes. I fed them fodder, and spent time around them to develop a strong bond so much so that they would obey my commands. I learnt the intricacies from the original Kambala racer Srinivasa Gowda, who is also in the movie. I had to run with a buffalo in racing sequences, and even fractured my left toes, thus maintaining balance was challenging,” he explains.

PAIRED OPPOSITE HARSHIKA POONACHAThe yet untitled movie, directed by Vinu Balanja, is set in the coastal region, and Swaraj plays a dual character. “I essay the role of a cameraman who loves to create content through his lens. As the story reaches a climax, my role turns serious,” he adds.
MAKing HIS DEBUT AS A DIRECTORSwaraj Shetty also has few Tulu films on the anvil. He now debuts as director in Sandalwood while also portraying a lead role. “In Kannada, I am trying a romantic genre. It shows the saga of a couple’s life post-marriage,” he
concludes.
