Jaggu Dada: As predictable as you can get
In his previous film, Darshan had a problem of plenty. His character had to choose a life partner from among three girls. In this film, there is scarcity. Since he is a feared don in Bengaluru, no family would want their daughter be his wife. So our hero goes in search of a bride to Mumbai. All this to fulfil the wish of his grandfather (Ravishankar as a ghost) pestering him to marry a girl from a "cultured family."
The story had all the potential to become a fun riot. There were situations aplenty for it. But the film is unnecessarily long with additions and plot twists that seem like an afterthought. Whatever entertaining elements present are diluted in the long-drawn outing.
Darshan plays Jaggu Dada, someone who is trained by his mom since childhood to become a 'don' and carry on the family tradition. The grandfather, however, wants to see 'culture' in his grandson and begins to haunt him. Dada has his sidekicks to supply humour and there are also a host of characters created only for this purpose. But in trying to also project Darshan's action image, the goofy comedy loses its appeal every now and then. The humour, whatever there is, is childish. It is a poorly written script that has only a handful of dialogues that can be recalled, some silly incidents and some sillier characters.
Jaggu Dada is predictable. There are only a few times that you are compelled to sit up and take notice. One is when the protagonist is rejected by different families and you almost feel sorry for him. The other is an action element towards the end where he tries to save his friends.
The few good things in the film are the songs that have the Harikrishna stamp all over them. Venu's cinematography, especially in places where he manges go from close-up to a wide landscape or vice-versa, is done superbly. Jaggu Dada may still enthuse fans of the star, but for the rest, it could be an underwhelming experience.
