'My debut film was all about Upendra'

... says actress Tanishka Kapoor
'My debut film was all about Upendra'
She’s a Delhiite, but born in Mumbai, who, by virtue of having spent almost her entire life in Mangaluru, is practically south Indian. And model-turned-actress Tanishka Kapoor, who made her filmi debut with Uppi2, is more than happy to be known as a south Indian. “My family moved to Mangaluru almost immediately after I was born. I lived there for 16 years, after which I shifted to Bengaluru.

I understand Kannada and could even speak it in the Mangaluru dialect, but my time in Bengaluru has changed it drastically,” laughs the young actress, who is awaiting the release of her second Kannada film, First Rank Raju.
Interestingly, her character in the film is that of a north Indian girl, who comes to the south for college studies and manages with just ‘Kannada gothila’. “It was strange pretending to not understand anything. In fact, all my lines are in Hindi. My character is an introvert, who does not like to make friends. She likes a guy, but has difficulty communicating that due to the language barrier between them,” explains Tanishka.
Much like her debut film, First Rank Raju also has an ensemble cast, including another heroine, Apoorva, but Tanishka says that her expectations of this film are far greater than Uppi2. “My debut film was all about Upendra, as it marked his return to direction. First Rank Raju has a bunch of newcomers, so audiences will notice us more in this film,” says the actress, adding that she put a Tamil film offer on hold until the release of this film. “I have more screen space in this film, and want filmmakers to look at my work in it and then offer me roles,” she says.
