My encounter with a criminal gang inspired my next film: Shashikanth

Art imitates life in filmmaker Shashikanth Gatti’s latest, a suspense thriller, titled Ranchi. Releasing on December 1, the film sees Prabhu Mundkur, Divya Uruduga, Aarthi Nair and Usha Bhandary in lead roles. “The film is based on an incident that took place in Ranchi, in 2009,” Shashikanth tells us. “I got in touch with a few people who wanted to make a documentary film. Post discussion, I said yes, and they wanted me to come to Ranchi.But, after a few more calls, I felt something was fishy. Though I continued to speak to them, I also went to the cops, who nabbed these people who were part of a rather well-oiled crime syndicate,” he shares, adding,“The movie has a realism factor.”
