Our film will be a tribute to Bengaluru’s motherly spirit, says Pradeep Shastry
Bengaluru is not just a city; it is an emotion. This doesn’t just apply to those raised in the Garden City, but also to those who migrated here for various reasons. “Our film will be a tribute to this motherly spirit of the city and its start-up culture,” says Pradeep Shastry, director of Made in Bengaluru.
“The city cares for you and looks after you even if you make a few mistakes. This is why it easily becomes home to outsiders. Bengaluru does not have its own city-specific festivals, but people come together here to celebrate work, which makes it an ideal place for start-ups. The film explores all of this,” Pradeep adds.
The film brings together an interesting cast, including Ananth Nag, Sai Kumar, and Prakash Belavadi. Newbie Madhusudhan Govind is playing the lead in the film.
“It has several interesting characters, from venture capitalists to gangsters and cricket aficionados to crooks. Ananth plays a Sindhi businessman, Prakash will carry the role of a ‘dream stealer’ and Sai plays a ‘Reddy’ gangster. The story revolves around an IT professional, who quits his job to begin a start-up. He ends up borrowing money from a loan shark. The film is full of light moments, life lessons, inspirations, belonging, and eternal hope,” Pradeep says, adding that the film’s release date will be announced soon.
Anant Nag improvised his character
“We first pitched this film to Anant. He improvised his character all by himself. We had written in a Kannadiga character, but he gave the role a ‘Hindi-Kannada’ accent, which works even better. He has dedicated his role to Palchandani, a Sindhi man and a film distributor, who produced Shankar Nag’s film Minchina Ota. Anant has added life to the character,” Pradeep says.
One song, 11 languagesAlmost a century ago, playwright T P Kailasam composed a song in six languages. Back then, when historical dramas were taking centre stage, his social dramas brought in a creative twist. AV Varadachar did the same.
Interestingly, all their plays used to begin with a song. As a tribute to these personalities, Pradeep has placed a song that has 11 languages at the beginning of Made in Bengaluru. “The predominantly Kannada song features musicians and singers who sang the Banniri Bengalurige song,” Pradeep says.
