Interestingly, these on-screen pairs began their acting careers with the same film, before fame and recognition came beckoning

As rare as it may be, it is certainly quite fascinating that a film would launch not one but two superstars. The fact that, in most cases, each of the two debutants would go on to become superstars in their own individual rights is all the more interesting, especially when their trysts with destinies began at the same point. So, let's quickly take a look at the popular on-screen pairs that began their film journeys together.

Shiva Rajkumar and Sudha Rani, 'Anand (1986)'

Singeetham Srinivas Rao's 'Anand' served as the launchpad to both Shiva Rajkumar and Sudha Rani. The two, post the success of this debut outing, would feature together in a number of films during the late '80s and '90s as one of the trending on-screen pairs of the time. Individually too, both Sudha Rani and Shiva Rajkumar earned several hit films to their name - while Sudha Rani stepped away from the limelight post-marriage, Shiva Rajkumar continued being in the reckoning and still remains one of the foremost leading men in the industry.

Raghavendra Rajkumar and Malashri, 'Nanjundi Kalyana (1989)'

Although Malashri had already begun her acting career in the Telugu and Tamil industries, it is her bonafide Kannada debut that we refer to here. The story goes that popular lyricist/screenwriter Chi. Udaya Shankar introduced Malashri to the Rajkumar family which, at the time, was scouting for the right talent for Raghavendra Rajkumar's debut. Malashri, who carried her birthname Durga up till then, would charm them right away and be cast in 'Nanjundi Kalyani' as the female lead, thus beginning one of the most successful careers in Kannada Cinema. She would later be known as the industry's Kanasina Rani for the superstardom she achieved over the next few years.

Vijay Raghavendra and Radhika, 'Ninagagi (2002)'

Another member of the Rajkumar clan, Vijay Raghavendra too had a boastful career to his name as a child artist. Having won a National Award for his portrayal in 'Kotreshi Kanasu' in 1994, Vijay's debut as an adult came about in 2002 wherein he was cast opposite fellow debutant Radhika. The film, although a remake of the Telugu blockbuster 'Nuvve Kaavali', ended becoming one of the biggest hits in Kannada that year and remains the duo's most memorable film to date.

Puneeth Rajkumar and Rakshita, 'Appu (2003)'

Puneeth Rajkumar and Rakshita's acting careers began with the 2003 film 'Appu' which was directed by popular Telugu filmmaker Puri Jagannadh. While Puneeth already had a number of acting credits to his name as a child artist, 'Appu' marked his debut as an adult and his on-screen pairing with Rakshita is still etched in public memory. Thanks to the success of the film that the two would go on to become most sought-after actors during the decade that followed.
