It was during lockdown and on one of their numerous video chats, that director
Pradeep Varma and
actor Prabhu Mundkur
, who had earlier collaborated on the 2017 film
Urvi
, hit upon the idea of working together again on their second venture. “And both of us were clear that it had to break away from the regular pattern. Because following the formula is something the audience will clearly not accept henceforth,” shares Prabhu, who made his filmi debut with Urvi. Months of discussions later, the duo have arrived at
Murphy
, a sci-fi romantic drama, that spans two different decades. “After Urvi, we wanted to explore content that’s in stark contrast to what we had done, and fantasy came to mind,” says Pradeep. The director and Prabhu have jointly written the script and pre-production for the same will start once the month of ashada, during which no auspicious work is taken, is over. “The makers of Trivikrama are backing the project and we are currently on the lookout for a heroine who is also a performer,” Prabhu says.
Incidentally, their earlier collaboration Urvi had not one but three leading ladies – Sruthi Hariharan, Shraddha Srinath and Shwetha Pandit – considering that it was a female-centric film. The film had music by Grammy Award winning violinist Manoj George. Pradeep’s film Brahmi starred Suman Nagarkar and Anoosha Krishnan, while his next The Fallen, had Anupama Gowda in the lead. Considering that he has a penchant for casting actresses of a certain calibre, it would be interesting to see who he will get on board for Murphy.
