Praveen Tej and Achyut Kumar to star in social drama Thukra-Thaniya

Actors Praveen Tej and Achyut Kumar have been roped in to play leads in Raghu Shivamogga’s upcoming film, Thukra-Thaniya. Set in Malnad, the movie is a social drama that tells the tales of underdogs. Actor Vijay Kumar released the poster of the film on the occasion of Varamahalakshmi festival.

Speaking about the unique title, director Raghu says, “Thukra means a person born on Shukravara or Friday. Thaniya means a person born on Saturday. These names are very common among the labour class in the Malnad and South Canara region. Remember Guruva from Kantara? Gurva means a person born on Guruvara or Thursday. And Angaraka from Rangitanga? It means a person was born on Tuesday,” he explains.

“Praveen will be seen in a completely different shade in this film. This is our second collaboration after Churikatte. He is often seen as a software, soft boy. But here he gets a complete makeover. So is Achyut Kumar. The movie is set in Malnad region. But we are yet to finalise shoot location,” Raghu adds.
